STOP THE EDGEMOOR PORT
Help Protect Edgemoor to Claymont!
A New Port Is Irresponsible
Modernize the existing port for lower taxpayer funding, less truck congestion, and to maintain area home values
With exorbitant federal tariffs on the horizon, building another port is foolishly uneconomical
Delaware deserves smart and healthy growth, not wasteful spending with no guarantees
SAY NO to the Edgemoor Port Deal
Tell our lawmakers Delaware cannot afford this mistake!
3,100 direct port jobs were promised, then Gov. Matt Meyer proclaimed the "need for an automated container port" (Spotlight DE). Automated container ports are robotic and employ only 100 - 200 workers; yet, still no Delawareans are guaranteed this work
Illegally used funds: Over $190 million was taken from other states and funded with Delaware's unclaimed property revenue. Delaware lost at the US Supreme Court, and funds could be reclaimed; so DE taxpayers may have to make up the difference
With no rail access on the port, truck traffic and pollution will substantially increase
Construction costs are soaring. Enstructure estimate: $639 million construction cost which is based on a "design build," meaning there is NO FIXED PRICE, while construction of similar container ports cost about $1.5 BILLION!
"It used to take about 60 workers to unload a cargo ship, but the automatic port requires only nine. The automation has also changed it from a blue collar task into a white collar one... much of the work has been left to a computer in the office."
