Port Objections
We encourage citizens to submit objections to the proposed Edgemoor Port directly to the Diamond State Port Corporation (DSPC)
These are some of our talking points at StopTheEdgemoorPort.com which you may want to consider in your objections:
Congestion
Congestion and degradation on our local roads from Edgemoor to Claymont from 2600 trucks coming and going from the proposed port daily
This is the TV commercial we produced about the traffic. An update from 2000 to 2600 trucks has been issued about the traffic, but the TV commercial says “2000” trucks:
Air Pollution
The Air pollution from 2600 diesel trucks coming and going to the proposed Edgemoor Port daily.
Noise Pollution
The noise pollution from the 2600 trucks daily.
Fish Spawn Grounds
Heavy objections to the irreversible destruction of vital fish spawning grounds in the Delaware River in and around the proposed Edgemoor Port site.
Dredging
Heavy objections to the 3.3 MILLION cubic yard of dredge material to create a 90 acre turnaround for the 1000 foot container ships in the Delaware River extending into the main shipping channel. FYI the proposed port will hold two 1000 foot container vessels.
This is the TV commercial we produced about the 3.3 million cubic yards of dredge material that would be extracted from the Delaware River to built the proposed Edgemoor Port:
Annual Dredging
Heavy objections to the annual dredge of 500,000 cubic yards of dredge material to maintain the 90 acre turnaround.
Jobs Myth
All ports in the USA are headed towards A.I. which will operate the unloading, and trolley’s which move the containers around the port; this means that alleged jobs are a myth, not a reality, because A.I. will replace the jobs.
This is the TV commercial we produced about the jobs:
Taxpayer Subsidies
Annually, we (the Citizens of Delaware) subsidize the Port of Wilmington with 20 MILLION DOLLARS of taxpayer dollars to keep the Port of Wilmington running. With that in mind and understanding that the current Port of Wilmington is NOT profitable, how much more of our taxpayer dollars subsidies will be needed for the proposed Edgemoor Port to keep that running?
They want to build the Edgemoor Port, but they have “zero” customers to support that operation and they are betting on the idea of “Build it and They Will Come“. It is a pipe dream about that operation, especially when it was just reported that in September 2025, US container imports dropped by 8.4% year-over-year, with imports from China falling by 22.9%, attributed to President Trump’s tariffs.
The overall drop is part of a trend of declining container traffic, which is expected to continue, though some ports saw specific impacts that were either larger or smaller depending on the port. Bottom line, container ports will survive, but we would need increased container traffic across the nation if the Edgemoor Port were to be a viable project.
This is the TV commercial we produced about the $20,000,000 subsidy we, the taxpayers of Delaware, pay year after year for the current Port of Wilmington; a losing proposition by any business standard:
Expand the Existing Port
It is far more feasible to expand the existing Port of Wilmington. The current Port of Wilmington is located on 550 acres of land where they utilize 300 acres of the 550 acres. That leaves 250 available acres to expand the existing Port of Wilmington. The Edgemoor Site is 140 acres; far too small for a container port. So why not expand the existing port utilizing the additional 250 available acres at the Port of Wilmington?
This is the TV commercial we produced about expanding the current Port of Wilmington, not Edgemoor:
Diamond State Port Corporation
The Diamond State Port Corporation (DSPC) is the organization set up by the State of Delaware to run the current Port of Wilmington. Our Secretary of State, Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez, is the Executive in charge of the Diamond State Port Corporation.
For clarity, the Diamond State Port Corporation (DSPC) is a State entity that owns the Port of Wilmington. However, the Port of Wilmington is operated by a private company, Enstructure, a contract operator on behalf of the State of Delaware. The DSPC board is appointed by the Governor and subject to Senate confirmation, and the Senate oversees the state-owned port.
Feedback
You are welcome to object to the proposed Edgemoor Port in any manner you choose, but the aforementioned reasons and supportive TV commercials are the primary reasons the proposed Edgemoor Port should never be built.
The link provided below is a “feedback” link so residents, like you, can give feedback to the DSPC and specifically about our objections to the proposed Edgemoor Port being built.
We encourage all of you to submit your objections to the proposed Edgemoor Port directly to the DSPC via this link: https://port.delaware.gov/feedback
